Stephen is the Transport Operations Manager at the Christchurch City Council. This department is responsible for ensuring safe, sustainable, and integrated transport operations and systems in accordance with standards and bylaws, with the aim of creating a safer and optimised transport network. Stephen oversees Traffic Operations, Parking Teams, Roady Amenity & Asset Protection, Temporary Traffic Management and Real Time Operations. This role has involved the ability to successfully manage people across multiple disciplines with different and varying needs as well as providing technical and discipline specific leadership.
He has worked at Christchurch City Council since 2017 previously working as a Team Leader Traffic for the Traffic Operations Team. 

Stephen has 20 years’ experience working in transportation, as a consultant and within local government, both in NZ and the UK.  He has worked in roles where he has led teams of traffic signals and operations staff, with significant capital and operational budgets, being responsible for the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and future planning of ITS and signal assets. His specialty within transportation is in the design, operation, and maintenance of infrastructure for ITS and traffic signals and the assessment and design of road safety improvement schemes.

Outside of work Stephen enjoys the outdoor lifestyle and is a keen rock and alpine climber, sailor, and mountain biker.
